Mosaic knitting makes bold two-colour geometric patterns while only ever using one colour at a time, which is what makes it far easier than it looks. You work two rows with colour A, then two rows with colour B, and wherever the pattern wants the other colour to show you simply slip that stitch without working it, so the stitch from the previous colour rides up into the current rows. Because you never carry two yarns across a row or manage floats on the back, there is no tension juggling, and the slipped stitches build angular shapes, frets, and diamonds from a chart. The fabric is dense, firm, and a little less stretchy than plain knitting, which suits blankets, bags, and cowls. Read a mosaic chart one colour pair of rows at a time and slip the stitches marked in the other colour, and the design appears on its own. Keep the yarn relaxed behind slipped stitches so the fabric does not pucker.
