Fabric Yardage Calculator
Estimate how much fabric to buy from the total flat area of your pattern pieces and your fabric's width. This is a rough estimate, not a layout, always check your pattern's own yardage chart when one exists.
Add up the area of every pattern piece (length × width, in yards) to get total area. Most pattern envelopes list this for you, or trace the pieces onto grid paper.

This model assumes pieces can be packed edge to edge across the fabric width with no pattern matching. Napped fabrics, large prints, plaids, stripes, and one-way designs need more. Buy the amount on your pattern envelope when it's available.
