Say it how you would say it.

You should not need the right jargon before you can ask a useful question. Describe the problem, then get the term, the sentence to use, a practical next step, and the source behind it.

    Patterns & fit

If you mean: “I need the amount each pattern point moves from one size to the next

    Grade rule

Also heard as grading increment · size increment · pattern grade

A coordinated set of horizontal and vertical increments used to create other sizes from a base-size pattern while preserving intended proportions.

    Why it matters
One uniform percentage rarely preserves fit. Different body areas and pattern points need different movements across a size range.
    Say or ask
Which base size, size chart, POM increments, and grade rule control this nested pattern?
    Boundary
Grading extends an approved base pattern; it does not repair an incorrect base fit or prove every size works on bodies.
  2. 02
    Production

If you mean: “I need to check that the approved base fit grades correctly across sizes

    Size-set sample

Also heard as size set · graded-size sample · full-size run

A group of samples in selected or all sizes used to evaluate grade rules, measurements, proportion, construction, and size identification beyond the base size.

    Why it matters
A good base-size fit can still fail at range extremes if grade increments or construction relationships do not scale as intended.
    Say or ask
Which sizes represent the grade range, which POMs and tolerances are checked, and what evidence closes the unmade sizes?
    Boundary
A partial size set does not directly test every size. Record the sampled sizes and the rationale for any gaps.

    Materials

If you mean: “I need to know whether rayon counts as natural or synthetic

    Manufactured fibre

Also heard as man-made fibre · manufactured textile fibre · regenerated fibre

A textile fibre produced through manufacture from a substance that was not a fibre at some stage of the process; the category includes fibres with different feedstocks and production routes and is not a performance grade.

    Why it matters
Rayon, viscose, nylon, polyester, and other manufactured fibres cannot be evaluated accurately by treating natural origin, chemical route, product performance, or environmental impact as the same question.
    Say or ask
What is the regulated generic fibre name, percentage, feedstock claim, manufacturing route, complete textile construction, and evidence for each performance or environmental claim?
    Boundary
Manufactured does not mean petroleum-based, and plant feedstock does not make the finished fibre a natural fibre. Verify the applicable market's labelling rules and the complete product evidence.
How to use this responsibly

A translation is a better question, not automatic proof.

Many textile terms have a formal test-method meaning and a looser workshop meaning. The source link shows the reference used here; the boundary note shows what the term cannot establish by itself.

For a purchase, approval, claim, or inspection, name the method, version, unit, sample or lot, target, tolerance, and who has authority to accept it.
