Tunisian Knit Stitch

Tunisian knit stitch is the Tunisian stitch that most closely imitates knitting, giving a front covered in the smooth V columns of stockinette. It is worked like Tunisian simple stitch, on a long hook with a forward and a return pass, but on the forward pass you insert the hook through the fabric between the front and back vertical bars, rather than under the front bar, before drawing up each loop. Pushing the hook through the fabric that way seats each loop as a knit-look V, so the finished piece can pass for knitting at a glance while being sturdier and thicker. It suits blankets, cowls, and knit-look garments, and it is a favourite for anyone who prefers crochet but wants a stockinette look. It curls toward the front like all Tunisian fabric, so plan a border or block it. It is a small step up from simple stitch because inserting the hook through the fabric takes a little practice, and it works up dense and warm, using more yarn than plain crochet.
