Corner-to-Corner Stitch

Corner to corner, almost always shortened to C2C, builds a fabric out of little blocks worked on the diagonal from one corner to the opposite one. Each block is a small unit of a chain-three turning post and three double crochet, and blocks are joined by slip-stitching or chaining into the previous row's block. You increase by adding a block at the end of every row, growing the diagonal until the piece is at its widest point, then you decrease by skipping the last block each row until it closes at the far corner. Because the fabric is made of discrete square blocks laid out on a grid, C2C is the standard way to crochet a chart or pixel picture: each block is one square of the graph, so colour changes drop straight onto a grid. The diagonal construction means the whole blanket grows at once rather than row by row, which many people find satisfying, though keeping the block count right on the increase and decrease rows is where beginners slip. It gives a solid, slightly bumpy fabric with good body.
