Crochet basketweave builds a woven look from blocks of front-post and back-post double crochet. Working around the front of a post pulls the stitch forward and working around the back pushes it away, so a group of front-post stitches makes a raised column and a group of back-post stitches makes a recessed one. You work several front-post then several back-post across a row to form vertical blocks, hold that for a few rows, then swap which blocks are raised and which are recessed, and the alternating raised and sunken squares weave together like a basket. It makes a thick, warm, reversible fabric with real structure, ideal for blankets, cushions, and bags, though it uses more yarn and has little drape. Keep an even tension on the post stitches, since they can tighten the fabric, and count your blocks, because it is easy to lose track of when to switch from front to back post.
