| Best for | Identifying which Tanzania textile or apparel standards TBS currently lists as compulsory before obtaining the full text and confirming certification or import-conformity steps |
| Know before using | The public list identifies standard numbers, titles, editions, and compulsory status; it does not reproduce the full requirements, classify a particular product, select every applicable standard, approve a label, test a sample, issue a Standards Mark or certificate of conformity, determine an import route, or provide legal advice. Full standards may require purchase. Some entries cover fabrics, used textiles, medical or protective products, and other technical textiles rather than ordinary clothing. Confirm the current list and gazette notices, exact product scope, standard edition and amendments, full text, testing, certification, PVoC, documentation, marking, customs, and market-specific requirements directly with TBS and qualified local support before manufacture, shipment, or sale. |

| What the source establishes | The Tanzania Bureau of Standards explains that compulsory standards prescribe obligatory requirements or essential product characteristics and links an 82-page List of New and Revised Compulsory Standards as of October 2025. Textile entries include TZS 690:2022 for garment quality, TZS 691:2022 for general labeling of products manufactured from textiles, TZS 693-1 and 693-2:2022 for clothing-size designation, TZS 689-1:2020 for cotton uniform fabrics, TZS 897:2020 for woven suit and trouser fabrics, TZS 898:2020 for schoolwear, TZS 900-1 and 900-2:2020 for knitted vests, TZS 910:2020 for woven cotton apparel fabrics, TZS 912:2020 for T-shirts, TZS 758:2023 for used textile inspection and acceptance, and multiple protective-textile standards. TBS's connected pages state that its Standards Mark scheme tests and certifies products against relevant Tanzania standards and that goods subject to import PVoC require conformity verification before shipment. |
